A TASTE OF HOI AN

1. Chicken Rice
(Cơm Gà)

It wasn’t difficult to locate this little restaurant as there was a long queue for this dish. We took a walk & came back just in time before they close. I can say that it’s worth the wait, such a satisfying meal. The chicken was surprisingly tender considering the locals in Vietnam prefer their chicken to be tough/chewy.

Address: Cơm Gà Bà Buội, 22 Phan Chu Trinh, Phường Minh An, Hội An

2. Thick Noodle Soup
(Bánh Canh)

Bánh canh is a thick Vietnamese noodle that is made from tapioca flour (or a mixture of rice & tapioca flour). Such a comforting dish, even on a heated day. This stand was located in an alley right next to Bánh Mì Phượng. You better be fast with this one as the stand only operates for 2hrs from 3-5pm.

Address: Bánh Canh Bà Quýt, 2 Phan Châu Trinh, P. Minh An, Hội An

3. Vietnamese Bread Roll
(Bánh Mì)

Probably the second best bread roll I’ve had in Vietnam so far & I’ve tried quite a few. The have so many options here, but our favourite was beef roll.

Address: Bánh Mì Phượng, 2b Phan Chu Trinh, Cẩm Châu, Hội An

4. Quang Style Noodle with Pork & Shrimp
(Mì Quảng)

Mì Quảng is a popular noodle dish from Quảng Nam Province. It’s part soup, part salad & full of big flavours; peanut oil, pungent cu nen, dried shrimp, pork & chilli. One bowl was definitely not enough.

Address: Mì Quảng Ông Hai, 6A Trương Minh Lượng, Cẩm Châu, Hội An

5. Popsicles
(Kem Que)

These are so good & so affordable, only 6,000VND each. I can’t give you an address for this one as this lady moves around quite often. You will most likely locate her around the night market though.
