HAPPIER NEW YEAR 2019

A New Beginning

Hello 2019! Hope you all have had a great & safe start to the new year. I am so glad 2018 is over lol.
Without a doubt, 2018 was a challenging year for me so I was more than happy to put my middle finger up & kick its ass goodbye. Although, 2018 was probably the worst year of my life!! I have to remind myself that there are others who have had/having it far worst than me so what do I have to complain about. It made me realise how grateful I am to have everything that I currently have in my life, to be who I am & do what I love with the support of/without judgement by those who are dear to me, to love & be loved by the people that I love.. is what makes me appreciate life so much because not everyone has this. I mean you guys don’t even know me personally & yet I’ve received constant comforting messages from all over the globe, that’s something & I highly appreciate that.

So what to expect in 2019? Well, since last year was filled with a punch in the face kind of events, I have no expectations or big plans this year. I do feel much wiser & stronger though so I’m just about ready to tackle anything. Shall we do a little recap?

I Got

I got married to my partner of 9 years (at the time), but my wedding was far from ideal. In fact, it was one of the most miserable time in my life. There’s no doubt that all relationships go through rough patches & this phase was our most challenging one. What was meant to be a happy time for Daniel & myself became a very traumatic period for us. As you all know, a member from Daniel’s family fell into coma & was later diagnosed with brain injury leading up to our wedding so the mood for celebration was off. As a result, our start to the “married life” was far from what we expected it to be. This ongoing event changed our lives drastically & thus drifted us away from our current lifestyles. It not only tested our relationship with ourselves as individuals, but also with each other as a couple & you know what? It really reinforced our relationship of 10 years in terms of being able to respond appropriately to each other’s vulnerabilities & strengths as well as applying trust, commitment & support when necessary. There were many occasions where we could’ve fallen apart, but the fact that we managed to keep it strong together brought us back to a happier place again.

The mood lifted when I got pregnant. It was such great timing for us as it meant opportunity to be a normal (married) couple again, a chance for a new beginning. The time & effort we invested in caring for others other than ourselves really did/do pay off because this family member woke up from coma on the same week I got pregnant. This is why we’ve chosen “Nova” to be the name of our first baby girl which is short for “supernova”, a powerful explosion of a star. Nova means “new” in Latin, a reminder of our struggle as well as a gift to us at a time of our successful battle to find that light at the end of the tunnel.

No fancy baby shower party, just a small gender reveal held in mid September. I actually didn’t mind waiting a little longer, but Daniel got too impatient LOL. Daniel & I have come to an agreement that he will name all our girls whereas I will be naming all our boys so he came up with this name. Boy, was he happy to be naming our first child. Call me crazy, but I do want 5 kids. I’m just saying that now, you never know after my first experience I could be like “yep, 1 is enough thanks” LOl. Both Daniel & myself are the eldest in our families & we both have a younger brother each which is why we desire a big family.

We finally had some time for ourselves thanks to our dear friends who organised the trip as a wedding gift to us. It was a short trip to Bali, but it was a sweet one because we needed it. Daniel & I made a few realistic resolutions for 2018 which we didn’t get to tick off due to the circumstances we were in so the fact that we got to tick this one off felt awesome.
